Shader Cache

Hi team, I understand intel’s’ AI approach to shader compiling and such, but to my understanding this is only viable for a handful of active games.

Is there a plan to actively expand the function?

The game I’ve struggled the most with so far was Wardogs, where even on the lowest possible details settings I struggle with micro stutters that get progressively worse the longer I play.

The AI approach is a great idea, but people are going to continue to complain as long as there isn’t an alternative setting like increasing the size of the shader cache for games that aren’t supported by the Shader Precompile setting.

If expanding the Precompile functionality is time consuming I believe adding a function to expand shader cache, while working on the precompile feature could be a good idea.

I have tried the registry work around but it has had no affect.

The only way to actually play the game is to clear my DX Shader cache manually via Windows Disk Cleanup which is a pain to have to keep doing.

Hi there!,

We appreciate your detailed observations. Regarding your questions:

1. Shader Precompile Support:
We understand your concern and appreciate your perspective on providing additional user-configurable options, such as increasing the shader cache size, as an alternative for unsupported titles. While we are unable to comment on specific future features or implementation plans, please be assured that Intel continuously evaluates opportunities to improve the user experience through future software and driver updates. We have also taken your feedback into consideration and documented it for review by the appropriate teams. Game support continues to expand with driver updates. The feature currently works exclusively with games installed through Steam Games Store. Fo more details look into Intel Precompiled Shaders: Faster Loading, Smoother Gaming | Intel Gaming Access

2. Shader Cache Configuration:
Clear the cache in this region and let us know the results
1. Open Windows File Explorer and navigate to your main Steam folder directory (usually located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam).
2. Navigate into the steamapps folder, then open the shadercache folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\shadercache\
3. Locate the specific folders for WARDOGS based on their unique Steam application IDs:
- 1867240 (The main WARDOGS base game folder)
- 4809930 (The WARDOGS Playtest / Beta folder, if you participated in the test)

3. Additional Information Requested
Thank you for sharing the behavior you have observed. We have documented your feedback for our records.
To better understand the issue, could you please provide:

  • The game version/build number currently installed.
  • Whether the issue occurs after every launch or only after extended gameplay sessions.
  • At this time, Intel does not provide an option to manually increase the shader cache size.

We appreciate your feedback and look forward to your response.
