*Post below is modified from a detailed summary of my ongoing issue by Claude Opus 4.6*
Hello Intel Community,
I am experiencing a consistent and reproducible system freeze on my Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 6 (Type 21QD) whenever I run three displays simultaneously (laptop internal screen + two external monitors). The freeze requires a hard restart via the power button every time.
Hardware:
- GPU: Intel Arc 140V (PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_7D41)
- Processor: Intel Core Ultra (Lunar Lake)
- Laptop: Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 6 (Type 21QD)
- Dock: Lenovo ThinkPad USB-C Dock Gen 2 (40AS0090)
- Monitors: 2x VAIMI 27" gaming monitors (1080p, 100Hz)
- OS: Windows 11, version 25H2, build 26200.9457
Driver Versions Tested:
Driver Version and Result:
| 32.0.101.8826 | |
|---|---|
| 32.0.101.8991 (WHQL) | |
| 32.0.101.9033 |
What I Have Tested:
I have systematically tested every combination I can think of to isolate the issue:
- Different monitors — Tested with older Viewsonic VX2703 monitors AND brand new VAIMI 27" gaming monitors. Same freeze on both.
- Different cable types — Tested DisplayPort, HDMI, active DP-to-HDMI adapter, passive DP-to-HDMI adapter. Same freeze on all.
- Different routing — Tested both monitors through the dock, AND one monitor HDMI direct to the laptop bypassing the dock entirely. Same freeze.
- Different driver versions — Tested 101.8826, 101.8991 (WHQL), and 101.9033. Clean installs performed each time. Same freeze on all.
- Different dock ports — Discovered one DP port on the dock may be faulty, switched to the working port. Same freeze.
The ONLY stable configuration is with the laptop lid closed (2 displays only). The system is apparently unstable unstable when I open the laptop lid to activate the third display, eventually freezes within minutes to hours.
Additional Context:
- Lenovo does NOT provide any Intel GPU driver on their support page for the T14 Gen 6 (Type 21QD). The only display-related download available is the Lenovo Adaptive ICC Profile. This means users of this machine are entirely dependent on Intel’s generic driver or Windows Update for GPU drivers.
- I have seen other reports of Intel Arc 140V/140T GPU instability, including LiveKernelEvent code 141 errors under GPU workloads. While those reports are about different applications (Lightroom Classic), the underlying pattern of Intel Arc 140-series GPU driver instability appears related.
- Adobe’s product team has acknowledged and logged a tracked bug affecting Intel Arc 140-series GPUs in their applications, which suggests there may be a broader driver-level issue affecting multiple workloads on this GPU family.
Steps to Reproduce:
- Connect Lenovo ThinkPad USB-C Dock Gen 2 to T14 Gen 6 via USB-C
- Connect one external monitor via DisplayPort to dock
- Connect second external monitor via HDMI (to dock OR directly to laptop — same result)
- Open laptop lid so internal display is active (3 total displays)
- Use computer normally — system will freeze within minutes to hours
Expected: Stable operation with three simultaneous displays Actual: Complete system freeze requiring hard restart
Has anyone else experienced this issue with the Intel Arc 140V on Lunar Lake, specifically with triple display configurations? Any workarounds beyond closing the laptop lid would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
