BSOD in igdkmd64.sys triggered by Automatic Brightness

Hello,

I would like to report a reproducible BSOD that appears to be related to the Intel graphics driver. When Windows Automatic Brightness is enabled, a sudden increase in ambient light consistently causes a BSOD. The sequence is always the same:

  • Automatic Brightness is enabled.
  • A sudden increase in ambient light occurs (for example, opening the curtains or shining a bright light at the ambient light sensor).
  • The display brightness increases normally.
  • One or two seconds later, Windows crashes with a BSOD and restarts.

  • SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (0x3B)
  • Failing module: igdkmd64.sys

Lenovo provides graphics drivers that are specifically customized and validated for your laptop, tried Driver uninstaller as well (remove the current graphics driver). Update your Windows and your bios. install the latest graphics driver first available from the Lenovo support website for your exact laptop model..
